The Black 1950s Bethlehem Star Taqsirah
This gorgeous taqsirah was made in the 1950s. It features a short-sleeve silhouette perfect for everyday wear — pair it with pants, layer it over a dress, or style it on top of a thobe.
The taqsirah is made from thick, lush black velvet adorned with incredible star motifs using the tahriri couching stitch technique. The designs also feature colorful silk floss, a hallmark of traditional tahriri stitchwork. The interior is finished with a smooth cream satin lining.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. There is tape residue on the right shoulder from a British collector who applied masking tape to catalogue the jacket. Given the antique nature of the piece, we’ve chosen to leave it as is to avoid damaging the velvet.
Measurements:
• 22" armpit to armpit
• 17" shoulder to hem
Fit: Best for up to a size 8 for a comfortable fit.
