Antique Ramallah Velvet Taqsirah Jacket

A rare and striking heirloom from the early 1900s, this cropped velvet Taqsirah jacket is a beautifully preserved example of traditional Palestinian dress, likely handmade in the Ramallah region between 1900–1920.

Crafted from deep navy mukhmal (velvet) and lined in mauve silk, the jacket features intricate Tahriri stitchwork—a traditional Levantine couching embroidery. Gold metallic threads are hand-laid into ornate patterns, while dyed silk threads fill each circle with jewel-toned shimmer against the velvet base.

Ramallah taqsirat like this were worn over long embroidered dresses for weddings and special occasions. The cropped, structured silhouette reflects military tailoring influences, softened by local materials and detailing.

In excellent antique condition, this piece is a stunning example of early 20th-century Palestinian textile artistry and cultural fusion.

Wear it over a thobe, a dress, or a pair of jeans.
Best fits US sizes 2–8 (XS–M). Cropped fit; meant to be layered.
