1970s Navy Co-Op Tatreez Dress (Small)

$375.00

This charming short sleeve dress was made in the 1970s. It features a lovely knee length silhouette with beautiful hand embroidery. A back zipper closure with gentle pleating creates a polished, tailored look.

The fabric is a lush cotton linen and the embroidery is done with DMC cotton threads.

Pieces like this were produced in women run cooperatives, where Palestinian women generated income for their families through embroidery. These co-ops played a vital role in sustaining both livelihood and tradition, adapting tatreez into more contemporary silhouettes for Palestinians in diaspora. At the time, the traditional thobe was often seen as formal, so garments like this, along with purses and home textiles, offered a more modern way to wear and live with embroidery.

We are honored to share this piece of tatreez history with our community. A true collector’s item, it reflects the remarkable craftsmanship and high quality work produced through these cooperatives.
