1960s-1970s Co-Op Thobe
1960s–1970s Co-Op Thobe
A Palestinian thobe produced through women’s embroidery co-ops during the 1960s–1970s. Crafted in a lightweight polyester blend typical of the period, this piece reflects the more fitted, modern silhouette that co-ops began experimenting with as Palestinian women in the diaspora sought garments that balanced tradition with contemporary wearability.
The embroidery features classic motifs associated with Gaza like the Qilada, as well as the Canaanite/Bethlehem star.
Made during an era when embroidery co-ops employed displaced women and helped revive tatreez practices, this thobe is both a wearable garment and a historical time capsule. We believe this thobe was made in a co-op in Gaza.
Simple, chic, and beautifully streamlined, the dress includes two snap closures at the neckline and two side slits for ease of movement. Shoulder pads are present and can be easily removed depending on your preferred shape.
Fit & Condtion:
Length: 52”
Armpit to armpit: 19”
Hips: 20 ¾”
Our model is 5'4 and wears a size 2. Will fit up to a size 4.
This thobe is in great vintage condition. No apparent damage, holes or tears. It has been professionally cleaned and is ready to wear.
