1920s Palestinian Taqsirah on Damascene Silk Brocade
An exceptional 1920s Palestinian taqsirah crafted from luxurious Syrian silk brocade, showcasing the elegance and artistry of early 20th-century Palestinian dress. The garment features exquisite Tahiri stitch work, reflecting the skill and precision of Palestinian embroidery.
The rich Damascene silk brocade, woven in Syria’s renowned textile-producing centers, was a highly prized fabric throughout Bilad ash-Sham. Combined with intricate hand embroidery and traditional tailoring, this over 100-year-old taqsirah is a remarkable example of Palestinian ceremonial dress and craftsmanship.
Condition:
The taqsirah is over 100 years old and remains in excellent overall antique condition. There is some light fading to the brocade on the front of the jacket. The qassab and tahriri work are in good condition. Some loose areas. The lining shows some damage and oxidation consistent with age. There is a small stain on the backside we were not able to get out. The jacket has been professionally cleaned.
Measurements, laid flat: 📏
Armpit to armpit: 18"
Arm width: 7 3/4"
✨ PLEASE NOTE ✨
